These new iPhone apps, and all the smart phone apps are getting
pretty cool. You can go into a store and buy something, find out what
you're looking for, compare prices, and even ring for help from a floor
clerk. In fact, the apps might even tell you when a sale is going on
when you might be passing by out front. The restaurant industry is also
starting to use apps for things like their menus, reservations, alerting
the valet to get your car now, and alerting you as to when your table
is ready. In fact it's getting kind of fun, in a new sort of
techno-type-environment way. Okay so let's talk some more about some of
the new apps coming out these days for restaurants'
There was an interesting article in Self-Serve News Online on February 24, 2013 titled; "App gives restaurant-goers self-service song choices," by Cherryh Butler which stated in describing how it works;
"Customers download the Roqbot app to vote for their favorite songs. The app then selects the most popular songs to play. The businesses keep control over the selections because they customize their music library at setup, meaning customers can only vote for songs authorized by the restaurants. Roqbot's library includes not only more than 7 million songs, but also genre-specific catalogs and pre-built playlists, and business owners may also build their own playlists using the online tools."
Hey, now that's pretty cool, but screw that noise (music) I have a better idea, because I don't care how many people voted for Obama, "liked" Paris Hilton's dog on Facebook, or voted for Rap music that day. You see, what I want is directional sound which is pumped to just my table, thus, helping to limit the side noise from the restaurant and I only have to listen to MY music and have it MY way! Interestingly enough, all of this technology already exists, it wouldn't cost very much for a restaurant to put it in. Further, it's quite easy to control the sound within a booth at a restaurant, and maybe your app could download your music list and you could adjust the volume too?
If the sound came from the ceiling and focused down into the booth, only people in that booth would hear that type of music, people next door would not hear it, even if they were listening to music themselves or perhaps they opted for no music? It might even work well for open tables in the middle of a restaurant. Indeed I hope that those who are considering this new strategy of music while eating at your favorite food establishment will consider some of the other strategies which are now being made possible.
It's just a matter of innovation, entrepreneurship, and solving problems. It's a matter of bundling various technologies and cross pollinating ideas are different industry sectors. Trust me when I tell you that the restaurant industry is only one of many sectors which are enjoying all of these new smart phone apps. Please consider all this and think on it.
